Alright guys, this should make gaming a LOT easier for everyone!

http://goldenbell.jconserv.net/index.php

Welcome to your new Golden Bell logging forum! I hope it proves useful for all of you. It's excellent for writing with people who don't use AIM or get online much. I'm adding the forum link to the linklist on the community. Join up if you wish. I already have two of my own in-progress logs posted there so that they can be started back up again. Have fun!

It's really good for logging with people who don't get on AIM at all or very often, or for people with different schedules than you. It's also a little more private than LJ logging, and there's the opportunity to plot with those AIM-scarce people on top of just logging with them. I've found it helps a lot, and what's the harm?

The discussion forums are just for fun. Whether people use them or not, they're there. I think it's good to give people as many gameplay options as possible. ^_^

But... we can do the exact same thing on LJ already so it's not really simplifying anything. And we have gbu_fans for the discussion part already, so this is just adding another website for everyone to constantly check. It seems superfluous.

It's completely optional, so not everyone has to check it if they don't want to. The forum is for discussion among game players only, and it's more private than posting to the community for LJ logging if that's what people prefer (I know I do). Plot threads are not allowed on the community, and multiple logs on the forums can sometimes be easier to keep track of. Like I said, it's optional, it depends on personal preference, and it's really helped another game I'm in, so I figured why not. :3 It seems like people are really open to having a lot of options and this is just another one.

What? You can do that on LJ too, you just make a post and filter it only to the person you're writing with. That way you keep the product under wraps until it's done. Then you just post it to the comm and delete the filtered post if you want to. Jess and I did that several times and it worked perfectly. As for plot threads... if that's an issue, why not just allow them? It would just be simpler, and I thought simplification was what you were just talking about in the post before this.

And I'm aware that it's just another option, I just don't think it's an option anyone needs. It's like the news feeds on Facebook. It was a new way of keeping track of things, but... nothing that couldn't have been done before, and no one asked for it.

Why are you so against giving new things a shot? I've RPed over filtered LJ entries before, and also over forums, and I have to say that the filtered LJ entries were simply more of a pain in the ass. Sure, some people will prefer filtered LJ entries, but what's so hard about just... not using something you don't think you'll like? If no one uses it, then no harm no foul. If only a few people use it, that'll mean that you have that many more logs to contribute to making this community more alive.

People don't have to check it constantly, just when they know they're have a log going with someone.

And I know that, while I love the person journals, the logging in and out of accounts is a huge pain in the ass for me. I'll gladly welcome the ability to do my own thing while I'm also logging with someone.

I think a lot of people who don't use AIM just don't want to mess with creating filters for individual people on their journals, switching in and out of journal sns, etc. And having plot threads on the comm ruins a lot of nice surprises for the rest of us...

I was not talking about simplification, but versatility and options. This is optional and it's there for those who would like to use it. Those not using it have no reason to check it, and I don't think there will be any need to mention forum issues on the community after this post. Since two members have expressed their interest in using the forums already, I think it's hard to make a blanket statement like "I don't think it's an option anyone needs." Right now we need as many options as we can get for the benefit of our busy players.

I don't believe there's an issue here since this is completely optional, taken care of by me, for the benefit of players who might need or like it, and will not intrude on gameplay by other players in any way.

replying in forum threads also doesn't do the annoying thread stacking thing that LJ does. Which is nice.

Dunce Kitty ;__;

I feel kind of like the lack of RPing in real-time will make people more lackadaisical about posting... I dunno. I've never really liked forum-based RPs much. :\

Oh, it's not making it forum-based. The forum is just for writing up the logs, and they'll then be posted to the community. Plus, according to the last post I made, many players are going to have trouble logging on AIM now and without alternate logging options people like Em and Kim won't be able to game with us, sadly. The more options we give people (the forum, LJ-threads, email, etc) the more people will be able to play! ♥

Because they've been so gung-ho and active about posting lately?

Personally, I don't think I'll be using the forum. I guess because it is kinda just another thing that I would have to be keeping track of and wouldn't really be simplifying anything for me or the people that I directly RP with. And I'm a little bit crazy about people reading my works-in-progress before they are done.

default!

I think having the forum is a great idea! Sure, it might seem as if it's another thing to track, but it's more of an optional thing. We've got AIM, we've got LJ, and a forum is just adding onto the list of potential options to go to when we need an update fix. I think it'll be a lot simplier to do so anyway- with the whole multi LJ thing, you can only switch in and out of journals so many times before it gets annoying, and then, not everybody is on the same time, AIM-wise. Heck, I still don't even have an updated list of all of the SNs >_>;;.

Forums'll also kinda knock down a bit of the intimidation that is realtime RP. For me, it's kinda hard for me to really RP over AIM, mostly because of the transition from OOC planning into actual game play, and then, I get a bit nervous because I don't feel as if I'm moving fast enough. With a forum, I won't have to really worry about that face-to-faceness and actually get more out than what I do over AIM.

I actually really, really like this. To me, it's one hell of a relief. Lately, it's been nearly fucking impossible for me to get on AIM for more than a few hours at a time IF I'm lucky-- and that's mostly only in the morning as well.

I agree with the whole switching in and out of different LJ accounts- it gets old fast. I've never really been fond of RPing directly over LJ either, what with the constant 'NEW THREADS'. Forums just seem. . . easier. I mean, either way, the finished logs are getting posted here still; no harm done there.

Thanks Mei. I'm totally up for this. ♥

I'll be using them, because with my schedule as it is, it just makes it easier to find the logs I'm working on there instead of scrolling through pages of LJ. And the way that LJ stacks comments once you get too many and indents them too gets kind of annoying. Plus I like being able to just make a post that says "Hey! I wanna RP with these characters. Wanna do it?" And I don't have to worry about it getting lost in people's friend's lists. There are advantages. And with the way my life is right now, this will make things easier for me.
